Neuroimaging Staff Scientist

The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a Neuroimaging Staff Scientist who will 1) assist with establishing new acquisition and data analysis methods for experienced and new investigators, and 2) assist in training graduate students in neuroimaging data collection and analysis. This position will offer technical support and training for faculty, staff and students acquiring fMRI data, primarily on a 3 Tesla Siemens scanner but also on a 7T Siemens scanner. The research associate will also work with the computer resource group at the University of Minnesota's Center for Magnetic Resonance Research to help implement new data acquisition and analysis techniques and help new researchers establish data analysis streams and to make state-of-the-art techniques available to the broader research community. The duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Offer technical support and training for faculty, staff and students acquiring fMRI data, primarily on a 3 Tesla Siemens scanner but also on a 7T Siemens scanner.
  2. Assist with installation and maintenance of stimulus presentation and behavioral data collection systems.
  3. Assist with establishing new acquisition and data analysis methods for experienced and new investigators
  4. Work with researchers to tailor pulse sequence parameters and experiment protocols to optimize data quality for a given experimental question.
  5. Consult with researchers to select appropriate tools and methods for data analysis.
  6. Assist in training graduate students in neuroimaging data collection and analysis.
  7. Work with the computer resource group at the University of Minnesota's Center for Magnetic Resonance Research to help implement new data acquisition and analysis techniques and help new researchers establish data analysis streams and to make state-of-the-art techniques available to the broader research community.
  8. Participate in securing extra-mural research funding.
  9. Work both independently and cooperatively with others and be willing to learn a variety of data acquisition, pre- and post-processing techniques through one-on-one training and self-directed study.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Engineering, Computer Science, Psychology, Physics or other related field.
  • One or more years of research training.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be familiar with the MR imaging principles.
  • Experience operating a scanner and working in the high field environment.

Preferred Qualifications of this position:

Familiarity with the Siemens SYNGO platform. Experience securing grants and extra-mural funding.
