Post Doctoral Position
Parallel Excitation, B1 Shim and RF Pulse design with Human MR Scanners at 7 Tesla and 9.4 Tesla
University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA
The Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) in Minneapolis, University of Minnesota (http://www.cmrr.umn.edu/), offers a post doctoral position focusing on developing methods for Parallel RF excitation (such as Transmit SENSE), B1 Shimming and RF pulse design in human scanners at very high field (7T and 9.4T). Such methods are necessary to enable or greatly improve head and body MR Imaging and Spectroscopy at very high field.
The CMRR is a cutting edge MR research center renowned for its pioneering work with Human High Field scanners and provides large resources for RF coil development, RF pulse design and Electromagnetic field modeling. A large array of research projects in humans involving very high field scanners are performed at the CMRR, targeting different organs (brain, heart, prostate, liver, uterus), providing exciting applications for multi transmit RF coil methods.
The center currently hosts 4 human systems (3T Siemens, 4T Varian/Magnex, 7T Siemens/Magnex, 9.4T Varian/Magnex) as well as a 9.4T Varian/Magnex animal system, and is in the process of acquiring new equipments that will include a 16T animal system. The human 9.4T system is equipped with a 8 Transmit Channel Varian Direct Drive console allowing for Transmit SENSE. The 7T System (Siemens/Magnex) is currently equipped with an interface allowing for 16-channels static B1 Shimming and will be upgraded in the future to a multi Transmit Channel system. All human systems have 32 receive channel capability.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, BioMedical Engineering or related field
- Programming skills in at least one standard language (C, C++, matlab, IDL, ...) and experience with matrix algebra
Preferred Qualifications of this position:
- Experience with Electromagnetic field modeling would be a very significant advantage.
- Familiarity with MR scanner pulse sequence programming is not mandatory but would be a plus.
